Metro Theatre Production

This Saturday and Sunday I attended my internship at metro theatre. The production is roughly 2 hours long when the intermission is included. I am now able to control all the sound and light on my own. I control all the cues from the back room and I am no longer required any supervision. At first it was a little overwhelming because it was important to ensure that all the amps and monitors were on because if you miss one the whole show can be thrown off. By Sundays show I had the whole procedure down from start to finish. As I learn more and more, the production and experience becomes more enjoyable. I was very surprised at the amount of people that came out to see the show considering how difficult the weather was to drive in. The room can hold a capacity of 287 people. The average amount of people to watch the show usually ranges from 20-80 people. In the snowy conditions 40 people still came to watch the show. Overall this has been an amazing experience and I look forward to returning to Metro.

Inspiration

In my Directing and Scriptwriting class we were assigned to write a brief monologue on a person suddenly finding inspiration. I chose to write mine about a young painter in France, who is looking for inspiration to help him paint. Everyday people are required to find inspiration. Hidden in many different forms, inspiration is around us every day. The only task is being able to discover where the inspiration is located and what it can be used for. This script is a perfect example of the search of inspiration.

*Struggling artist is walking around France*
*Passing by extremely beautiful monuments, staring in amazement*
*Slumming his backpack around and dragging his feet*
* Bumps into another pedestrian and all his art tools fall out of his backpack onto the ground, the other pedestrian continues walking*
*Picks up tools as he speaks*

Teenage Boy: Ughhh! This is so ridiculous. I come all the way to France and people aren’t even civil to me. I can barely understand what they are saying, and they sure as hell can’t understand me. How am I supposed to make a living here when cant even find anyone to paint for.
*Something in the distance catches his eye, he slowly moves towards it*
That cant be…. Edgar Degas…
*He stares at the painting hanging in the window*
I wonder how he found his inspiration to paint. If only my inspiration would just come to me. I guess I am too much of a foreigner to be able to paint something so simplistic. If only there was some sort of sign to guide me on my artistic path.
*The boy sits on the curb and watches the traffic pass, a big truck passes by and then right behind it, he finds his inspiration*
*A young girl with a travelers backpack stands on the other side of the street looking just as confused as he is*
*The boy runs up to her*
Excuse me mam, my name is John Elgant, Im an American painter and I came to Paris in search of inspiration and I believe that you are it. I was wondering if you could help me by allowing me to paint you standing in this foreign city?

Girl: Yes I would love that!
*She reaches into her backpack and pulls out a paintbrush of her own*

Metro Theatre Intern

On the 15th of Feb 2011, I went to my internship at Metro Theatre for the first time. My first day there was a training experience and I learned how to manage the lighting and sound cues. It was an interesting experience for me because I got a chance to see what it would really be like behind the scenes of a production. Working with real actors and directors allowed me to get a feel for what film is like in the real world. At the moment I am still in training and I will be able to help with the actual production on February 19th, which is opening night. From the 19th of February to the 18th of March the Metro Theatre is hosting a production called “The Dinning Room”. The tickets are only 21$ and the show runs on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights, with the occasional Sunday afternoon show. This play is suitable for all ages!

Career Prep

Dear BlogSpot,
My name is Jennifer and I am currently exploring the field of film. I am a grade 12 member of Career Preparation and am required to complete 120 hours of volunteer work by graduation of 2011. So far I have completed 60 hours of volunteer work. I have done so by going to many career fairs and open houses. I have just recently been accepted as an intern at the metro theatre. I have been given the opportunity to help with all the technical aspects of the production. Such as the lighting and sound for a play called The Dinning Room. As each day becomes a learning process, I hope that this will be just the thing I need to gain entrance into university for the fall of 2011.
